General InformationGraz is the capital of the federal state of Styria (Steiermark) and the second-largest city in Austria. It is famous for its high quality of life and has a long tradition as a student city. Graz is situated on the Mur river, in a green and heavily forested area. Due to its position south east of the Alps, Graz is shielded from the prevailing westerly winds and hereby it has a Mediterranean influenced weather. The old town of Graz is easily explored on foot. You can revert to the life of the knights and visit the Landeszeughaus (armory), or the famous Uhrturm (clock tower) and get an overview of the historic old town. Beyond that the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2003 offers also new landmarks, like the Murinsel (the artificial island in the river Mur) or the Kunsthaus (new art museum). General Data
