Austria is a land-locked alpine country in Central Europe, divided into nine federal-states. It contains a big variety of landscapes, activities and attractions. It is a largely mountainous country and hereby a very popular spot for skiers and hikers. Of great touristic importance are also the numerous Austrian lakes (Salzkammergut east of Salzburg or Wörthersee in Carinthia). The country´s past as an Empire and its cultural environment have created, a broad contribution to various forms of art, most notably among them classical music. Already in the eighteenth century Austria became a Mecca for music lovers all over the world.
